Our editors provide tips that will help you write a recommendation letter
A main factor for program directors across all specialties in deciding who to interview are letters of recommendation within the specific specialty. NRMP residency applicants are able to submit up to four letters or recommendation via ERAS which makes it important to be selective and specific in choosing which to send.
It is recommended that at least half of the available letters of recommendation come from physicians who practice within the desired specialty of the applicant. Candidates who perform adequately are guaranteed assistance in obtaining a written letter of recommendation in support of their application in the specialty of their completed observership or externship.
